Our client fell in love with the character of this unique colonial style apartment with 180 degree views of Repulse Bay - but it was in need of a big refresh. Our client was looking to create a unique and storied home for her family and her personal art collection, a place that reflected her life’s passions, and felt like an escape.

Drawing inspiration from our client’s collection of artwork as well as a wabi sabi sensibility, we developed a moody and layered interior, with a full range of lowlights and highlights to cast emotive lighting on each of the key pieces. We integrated various tones and makes of woodcraft, refinishing the original timber floor to provide a natural foundation for an unexpected mix: angular mid-century pieces with a masterfully handcrafted, fluid cocktail table, layered amidst bespoke tables and storage built from highly textured, reclaimed elm. Linens, boucle, and velvet traverse from airy to earthy throughout each space. Book placement, ceramic volumes, and sprawling plants bring a soothing sense of life and comfort into the spaces, while leaving swathes of negative space for each vivid artwork to breathe.

In the guest room and office space, contrasting, darker tones are employed with a calming effect. The teen boy’s room uses blonde wood elements in a youthful yet striking, masculine vignette. His bespoke desk pairs with a vintage leather sofa in boxy, rich caramel duo. And in the master, a minimal room leads to a deep olive green walk-in closet, with natural light highlighting her vanity table, paired down to the essentials.

The verandah and balcony open up to beautiful sea and mountain views just beyond a light filled exterior design, simple in palette yet rich in materials. The bistro set on the balcony and the marble top table at the corner of the verandah are both ideal spots for a sunrise coffee or an afternoon tea gazing over the horizon for moments of mindful escapes.
